Director Christophe Gans has debuted an official image of his upcoming film "Beauty and the Beast (2014)". Playing the titular characters, Lea Seydoux and Vincent Cassel are both featured sporting royal queen and king costumes. The way the two hold their gaze seems to suggest that they are about to lock lips, AceShowbiz said.

The modern take on Madame de Villeneuve's story follows Belle, a joyful and touching young girl who falls in love with the Beast, a cursed creature in search of love and redemption. Despite the contemporary vibe, Seydoux herself has revealed that the drama is still "going to be a classic" since it's based on the original novel.

Gans serves behind the lens as well as pens the script with Richard Grandpierre attached to produce the feature from Pathe International. Eduardo Noriega, Andre Dussollier, Audrey Lamy and Myriam Charleins are added to the cast for supporting roles.

Seydoux has recently made headlines following the success of her latest film "Blue Is the Warmest Color" at Cannes as well as her impressive acting as a lesbian. Of some graphic sex scenes featured in it, the 27-year-old beauty said, "Be careful: they are simulated. We were wearing prosthesis. Come on, you saw the scenes! But it was only a small protection, it doesn't really change much."

As for Cassel, the husband of Monica Bellucci has stolen attention with his portrayal of Thomas Leroy in Darren Aronofsky's "Black Swan".

"Beauty and the Beast" will be released in France on February 12, 2014.
