8 killed in bomb blast outside Afghanistan’s Supreme Court

PanARMENIAN.Net - A bomb exploded on Tuesday, June 11 near minibuses taking Supreme Court staff home in the Afghan capital, Kabul, killing at least eight people and wounding dozens, police said, according to Reuters.

It was the second big attack in the city in two days. On Monday, seven Taliban insurgents including suicide bombers attacked Kabul's main airport.

Supreme Court workers were getting on minibuses to go home when the bomber struck. Kabul's deputy police chief Dawood Amin said eight people were killed and dozens wounded.

"A large explosion occurred near the Supreme Court but it's still not clear if it was a suicide attack or not," said Najib Nikzad, the Interior Ministry's deputy spokesman.

Women and children were among the casualties, he said.

Police said the target was three minibuses taking Supreme Court staff home for the day. The bomb was in a car and was triggered as the minibuses left the compound, Nikzad said.

The Supreme Court is about 200 meters from the entrance to the heavily fortified U.S. embassy.

"We were sitting in a car when suddenly there was an explosion in the car behind me," Kabul resident Mira Jan, bleeding from a wound in the head, told Reuters. "After that I don't know what happened."
