Jeff Daniels to join Steve Jobs bio, Tom Cruise was eyed for roleDecember 10, 2014 - 10:32 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - New info from Universal's untitled Steve Jobs biopic surfaces. As AceShowbiz reports citing TheWrap, the studio is eyeing Jeff Daniels to play former Apple CEO John Sculley. The studio has not responded to request for comments. The Danny Boyle-directed flick has faced some hiccups. Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale who previously were eyed for the lead role passed on the project. The pic, which originally was developed at Sony Pictures, was picked up by Universal last month after Sony put it in turnaround. Most recently, Natalie Portman who was eyed to play a major role also passed on the project. Michael Fassbender and Seth Rogen are now linked to the pic as Jobs and Steve Wozniak respectively. Following the massive hacking which targeted Sony two weeks ago, it is now revealed that the studio also saw Tom Cruise as a candidate to play the Apple co-founder. The info was revealed in recent email exchanges, CNN reports. In October, screenwriter Aaron Sorkin successfully convinced producer Scott Rudin and Boyle to cast Cruise and they had some correspondence with Cruise's agent. The emails also revealed that producer Michael De Luca thought Rogen's too young to play Wozniak, but Sorkin said he would be okay. Boyle apparently wasn't too keen on casting Cruise, saying that the decision "will be met with derision because it's such a commercial choice." The untitled Steve Jobs is eyeing a 2016 release. The production reportedly will start in spring. Top stories The creative crew of the Public TV had chosen 13-year-old Malena as a participant of this year's contest.
