Berlin Film Fest unveils Perspektive Deutsches Kino sidebar

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Berlin International Film Festival has unveiled this year's selection for the Perspektive Deutsches Kino sidebar, the lineup of feature and short films from up-and-coming German directors, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Summers Downstairs, the feature debut from actor-turned-director Tom Sommerlatte, will open the section. The drama follows two brothers who meet, as adults with their respective partners, at their family's summer house on the French Atlantic coast. It will have its world premiere in Berlin.

Other titles in the Perspektive lineup include Brodie Higgs’ directorial debut Elixir, which focuses on a group of politically-motivated artists living together in a factory loft in Berlin. At the other end of the scale, thematically, is Stubborn Boy from director Moritz Kramer, the story of a young woman from the city assigned to work on a dairy farm in a small village in the Black Forest.

Among the documentaries picked for this year's Perspektive include Unoccupied from director Filippa Bauer, which looks at four woman all dealing with the void left by their children after they have moved out; Tell Me Mnemosyne, Lisa Sperling's search for the story of her deceased great uncle, the cinematographer Karl-Heinz Hummel; and Sex: Speak, a documentary from directors Saskia Walker and Ralf Hechelmann composed of intimate interviews about sex with people ranging in age from 13 to 74.

The 65th Berlin International Film Festival runs Feb. 5-15.
