Azerbaijan to halt cooperation with European Union: President

PanARMENIAN.Net - Azerbaijan is suspending inter-parliamentary cooperation with the European Union, following a recently adopted resolution urging the country to free political prisoners, Tert.am reports citing Vesti.ru.

After the adoption of the resolution last Thursday, September 10, the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) announced its intention to cancel the body’s election observation mission in Azerbaijan.

In response, Azerbaijan suspended its membership in the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, questioning further cooperation within the EU Eastern Partnership program.

"Euronest has turned into an amorphous force, which is why the Parliament of Azerbaijan will cease cooperating with the structure,” Aliyev told a press conference. “Cooperation between the EP and the Azerbaijani parliament has been suspended as well.”
