FPWC, VivaCell-MTS continue street lighting project in border villagesNovember 20, 2015 - 12:49 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC), its General Partner VivaCell-MTS, as well as the employees of both organizations implemented a project in the village of Bardzruni in Armenia’s Vayots Dzor Province. As part of a commitment to support border communities, a street lighting system with 41 LED lights has been installed, covering a 1,250 meter area in Bardzruni. VivaCell-MTS General Manager Ralph Yirikian, FPWC Founder Ruben Khachatryan, Head of Bardzruni community Gagik Gevorgyan and community residents attended the event. “Having illuminated streets is not the prerogative of urban areas,” Yirikian said. “Development of this infrastructure in rural communities is an indicator of civilized lifestyle, even a safety guarantee for border communities.” 23 km section of Armenia's state border stretches along Bardzruni, at a distance of only 3km from Azeri border. The environmentally friendly and energy-efficient LED lights will reduce energy costs by up to 80%. Outdoor lighting will be provided from 10:00 pm to 1:00 am in summer, from 6:30 pm to 12:00 am in winter, and all night long on holidays. LED bulbs are efficient and durable, lasting much longer than the regular ones. The FPWC and VivaCell-MTS welcome the use of latest technologies in environment protection initiatives, promoting nature conservation, energy efficiency and community development.
