RA FM and Ago Group Discussed Karabakh Settlement

PanARMENIAN.Net - Yesterday Armenian Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian met with PACE Secretary General Mateo Sorinas Balfegó in Strasbourg reports the RA FM press office. During the meeting the Sec. Gen. said that PACE reporters on Armenia's commitments prepared the next report on fulfillment of commitments taken by the republic. The discussion of the document in Monitoring Commission is scheduled for December 13 and the adoption is due during PACE January session, 2007. Mateo Sorinas Balfegóalso stressed that the reporters fixed positive moves in the process of fulfillment of commitments, particularly establishment of balance between the different Armenian power branches as a result of constitutional reforms, enlargement of plaintiff circle to the Constitutional Court, judicial system, enlargement of Ombudsman's authorities and cancellation of administrative arrests.



The RA FM also met with CoE Committee of Ministers' group on monitoring the process of fulfillment of commitments by Armenia (Ago group). On monitoring group's request Vartan Oskanian touched upon the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement, constitutional referendum, preparation for parliamentary elections in Armenia, as well as the commitments taken by Armenia to the CoE. Ago group members drew minister's attention to the issues concerning elections, particularly the necessity in changes of Electoral Code and improvement of electoral lists.
