Leonardo DiCaprio to produce YA novel adaptation “Sandcastle Empire”

PanARMENIAN.Net - "The Sandcastle Empire", a Young Adult novel written by Kayla Olson, is getting a back-up from Leonardo DiCaprio and Paramount. The studio has nabbed the movie rights to the post-apocalypse book and DiCaprio will produce the adaptation with his Appian Way partner Jennifer Davisson, AceShowbiz reports citing THR.

DiCaprio was attracted to the manuscript due to the book's environmental themes. The SAG Award-winning actor has been very vocal about his stands on environmental issues and the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation has raised millions of dollars for Earth preservation.

"The Sandcastle Empire" takes place in 2049 when the Earth is at a breaking point due to climate change, coastal flooding and overpopulation. A radical faction known as the Wolfpack overthrows the government and takes control.

A young woman named Eden escapes a Wolfpack labor camp and joins three others fleeing to an island. During her journey, she will find clues as to what happened to her missing father and find out that she is the key to bringing down the Wolfpack.
