“Beyond the Centennial” program to feature Geoffrey RobertsonApril 6, 2016 - 13:48 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The continuing struggle for recognition of the Armenian Genocide and reparations for its victims headline a discussion later this month featuring a pair of prominent human rights advocates, Press and Guide reports. Geoffrey Robertson and Aram Hamparian are to appear on April 23 at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center in Dearborn in a program titled “Beyond the Centennial.” The event is sponsored by the Armenian Genocide Centennial Committee of Greater Detroit. “The events of 2015 recognizing 100 years since the near-annihilation of Christian Armenians made the world more aware of our unending fight for recognition and justice for our people,” said committee chairman Raffi Ourlian. “As we move through and beyond 2016, it’s equally imperative that our message does not fade away, so I encourage everyone who is concerned about human rights to attend.” Robertson is an internationally-known legal expert and United Nations war crimes judge. Based in London, he and Amal Alamuddin Clooney teamed up in late 2015 to successfully argue the case for the genocide in the European Court of Human Rights. Clooney is married to film star George Clooney. Hamparian is the executive director of the Armenian National Committee of America in Washington, D.C. ANCA actively advances the concerns of the Armenian American community on a broad range of issues. Hamparian has led the organization for more than a decade.
