Jennifer Lawrence narrates “Beautiful Planet” to back space exploration

PanARMENIAN.Net - Jennifer Lawrence won’t be going to space on film until “Passengers” comes out at the end of the year, but she got a headstart Saturday, April 16 at the premiere of “A Beautiful Planet,” the documentary from IMAX and NASA that she narrates. The documentary was shot digitally and features footage from the International Space Station, Variety reports.

The film premiered at the AMC Loews 13 in Manhattan. In addition to Lawrence, notable attendees included Aziz Ansari, Neil deGrasse Tyson, the film’s writer and director Toni Myers, IMAX CEO Richard Gelfond, as well as the NASA astronauts featured in the documentary.

“A former astronaut, Mike Massimino, told me Jennifer was really into space and she was really into the environment,” Gelfond explained. “So when I heard Mike tell me that, matter of factly, kind of a bell rang.”

IMAX has a history of bringing on big stars to narrate, namely Tom Cruise and Leonardo DiCaprio. “[Lawrence] looked at a rough cut with the director Toni Myers and she loved it.”

“I’m hoping this film will inspire people of all ages,” Myers said while introducing the film. “But especially young people to cherish our climate, to understand how it works so that we can take better care of it, and most of all go out and try to learn how to solve some of the problems that we’re facing.”

Lawrence did not help introduce the film, but stayed for the screening and called out “thank you” when Myers recognized her.

When asked if Lawrence was paid the same as DiCaprio and Cruise, Gelfond responded “no comment,” saying that none of them did it for the money.
