First-ever solar water heater installed in Armenia's Lori province

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Foundation for Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC) and VivaCell-MTS summed up the results of the joint program implemented in the framework of The Alternative Energy Project.

A solar water heater was installed in Gugark children and youth camp of Lori province, Armenia.

The system's launching ceremony was attended by the General Manager of VivaCell-MTS Ralph Yirikian, the Head of FPWC Ruben Khachatryan, and the Deputy Director of Gugark camp Gevorg Khanamiryan.

“Children and youngsters have to know about technologies used for environmental preservation, be aware of their importance. Besides instilling careful attitude toward the nature, it will also show them that solutions require more responsible, innovative and alternative ways, which are based on both one’s own interest and the care for the well-being of the environment,” Yirikian said.

The system will provide hot water supply in the kitchen of the camp throughout the year exclusively thanks to the solar water heater.

This is the first time a solar water heater is used in Armenia; 100mm vacuum tubes are more effective and occupy less space, providing more heat energy.

The solar water heater has two accumulators with 12 vacuum tubes (24 pieces in total), which provides 200 liters of 70-80 C hot water.

Depending on the weather conditions, the system reduces the costs spent on hot water up to 85-100%.

More than 1000 students attend the Gugark camp each year.
