New “Doctor Strange” still features Benedict Cumberbatch

PanARMENIAN.Net - A new still for Scott Derrickson's "Doctor Strange" has been released. Debuted via Entertainment Weekly, it features Benedict Cumberbatch's Stephen Strange a.k.a. the Sorcerer Supreme travelling to what seems to be a "psychedelic," trippy looking space, with his Eye of Agamotto glowing, AceShowbiz reports.

Speaking to the site, Derrickson shared the inspiration for the imagery even though he refused to describe what was actually happening in the picture, claiming that it "would be a big giveaway for the movie." The helmer confirmed that the vintage Strange adventures were the inspiration behind the weird visual effects of the image.

"It is the section of the movie that is most directly inspired by the '60s and '70s Doctor Strange comic book, specifically the Steve Ditko panels that were very psychedelic, and also a blacklight poster from 1971 that I have hanging above my desk at home," he said. "It's also the banner on my Twitter feed. So those are the visual inspirations for that space and it is all taken directly from the Marvel comic universe."

In addition, Marvel has released the international trailer for the upcoming movie. It features several magical blasts going back and forth, as well as some hand waving done by Strange and other sorcerers to create the mystic spells. Strange can be seen at the end of the trailer jumping down through what looks like a tunnel made of a transmogrified New York landscape.

Directed by Scott Derrickson from a script by Jon Spaihts, "Doctor Strange" is coming to U.S. theaters on November 4. The fantasy movie also stars Tilda Swinton, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Mads Mikkelsen, Rachel McAdams, Scott Adkins, Michael Stuhlbarg and Amy Landecker.

"Doctor Strange" follows Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a tragic car accident, must put ego aside and learn the secrets of a hidden world of mysticism and alternate dimensions. Based in New York City's Greenwich Village, he must act as an intermediary between the real world and what lies beyond, utilizing a vast array of metaphysical abilities and artifacts to protect the Marvel cinematic universe.
