“Family Style” comedy from Amy Poehler set at ABCNovember 5, 2016 - 15:14 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Amy Poehler and her Paper Kite banner has sold its third comedy of the season. The Universal Television-based production company is teaming with Claudia Lonow for the Odd Couple-themed Family Style, which has landed at ABC with a script (with penalty) commitment, The Hollywood Reporter said. Family Style is a single-camera comedy described as a multi-generational half-hour about two mismatched men from different cultures who find love in a family-run restaurant in Miami. The comedy is inspired by the life of Difficult People showrunner Scott King, who will co-write the script alongside Lonow (Crowded, How to Live With Your Parents, Friends With Benefits, Accidentally on Purpose). Both exec produce the Universal Television comedy alongside Poehler and her studio-based Paper Kite topper Brooke Posch and 3 Arts' Dave Becky. The comedy reunites Poehler, Posch and Becky with King as Hulu's Billy Eichner starrer Difficult People is produced by Paper Kite. This marks the third sale of the season for Paper Kite and second at ABC. The Universal TV-based company previously set up a multicamera comedy starring comedic legend Carol Burnett at the Disney-owned network — marking two big off-network sales for the studio. Additionally, Paper Kite scored a pilot production commitment at NBC for Seann William Scott comedy The Baby, which was the first project to come from her rich new overall deal with UTV. ABC has made a name for its comedy brand the past few seasons by focusing on more inclusive stories with series including Black-ish, Fresh Off the Boat, Speechless and gay-themed The Real O'Neals. New twists on traditional family comedies continue to be a high priority for the broadcast networks this development season.
