“Stranger Things,” “The Crown” dominate SAG Awards TV noms

PanARMENIAN.Net - While "Manchester by the Sea" is a favorite in movie category among the Screen Actors Guild members this year, freshmen like "Stranger Things" and "The Crown" become TV darlings for the upcoming 23rd annual SAG Awards. They top the list with three nominations apiece, making Netflix leading the pack with a total of 17 nods, AceShowbiz said.

"Stranger Things" duo Millie Bobby Brown and Winona Ryder are pitted against each other in Best Female Actor in a Drama Series. They are joined in the stiff competition by Claire Foy ("The Crown"), Thandie Newton ("Westworld") and Robin Wright ("House of Lies").

Meanwhile, Foy's co-star John Lithgow is up for Best Male Actor in a Drama Series along with Sterling K. Brown ("This Is Us"), Peter Dinklage ("Game of Thrones"), Rami Malek ("Mr. Robot") and Kevin Spacey ("House of Cards").

"Stranger Things" and "The Crown" are also vying for Outstanding Ensemble in a Drama Series. The other nominees are "Downton Abbey", "Game of Thrones" and "Westworld". Meanwhile, contenders for the Outstanding Ensemble in a Comedy Series are "The Big Bang Theory", "Black-ish", "Modern Family", "Orange Is the New Black" and "Veep".

"The People vs. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story" also collects three nods. Honoring the best achievements in film and television performances for the year 2016, the SAG awards will celebrate the winners on January 29. Lily Tomlin is chosen as the recipient of Lifetime Achievement Award. She is also nominated for Best Female Actor in a Comedy Series for "Grace and Frankie".
