European roe deer spotted in Armenia reserveFebruary 23, 2017 - 15:32 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Inspections at Shikahogh state reserve in the southern Armenian province of Syunik have revealed that at least four European roe deer, four foxes, four weasels, three beech martens, one European wildcat and 14 jackals currently live in the territory of the reserve. Shikahogh state reserve is Armenia’s second largest forest reserve. It is home to about 1,100 species of plants, 70 of which have been registered in the Red Book of Armenia. Also, the ministry of nature protection continues implementing thorough inspections at Dilijan national park to identify and prevent illegal logging and poaching cases. To strengthen the security of the national park in Dilijan, the ministry has prepared a fire prevention program and submitted it to Tavush regional administration for approval. With an area of 240 km², the Dilijan national park is one of Armenia’s four protected national parks, located in Tavush province of Armenia. It is known for its forest landscapes, rich biodiversity, medicinal mineral water springs, as well as natural and cultural monuments.
