Moonlight wins 2017 Oscar for best picture, Emma Stone is best actress

PanARMENIAN.Net - The 2017 Academy Awards was concluded. Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, the Sunday night event that took place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood handed out the Best Actress Award to Emma Stone, thanks to her performance in this year's Oscars triumphant movie "La La Land", AceShowbiz said.

"To the women in this category, [Natalie Portman], [Isabelle Huppert], [Meryl Streep], [Ruth Negga], you are all so extraordinary," Stone began while accepting her first Oscar. "I look up to you and I admire you more than I can put into words," she said. "It has been the greatest honor to stand alongside you - that is the greatest honor of all."

She continued thanking her family and colleagues, including director Damian Chazelle for the "opportunity to be a part of a project that was so special and once in a lifetime." She didn't forget to thank her co-star, Ryan Gosling. "Thank you for making me laugh and for always raising the bar and for being the greatest partner on this crazy adventure," she said.

Besides Best Actress, "La La Land" took home five gongs from several categories including Best Director for Chazelle and Best Original Song for its soundtrack "City of Stars". before the annual prestigious event was concluded, the musical movie was mistakenly declared as the Best Picture winner instead of "Moonlight".

It was presenter Faye Dunaway who wrongly read the cue card. After "La La Land" director Chazelle took the stage to begin his speech, the presenter admitted that she made an error and handed the top honor at the 89th annual Academy Awards to "Moonlight" director Barry Jenkins.

Trying to reduce the awkwardness that night, Jimmy Kimmel jokingly told the crowd, "I blame myself." Jenkins then began his acceptance speech by giving a nod to "La La Land" cast and crew, before saying, "Very clearly, even in my dreams this could not be true." He added, "But to hell with dreams! I'm done with it. This is true."
