Erdogan tells Biden to reverse Armenian Genocide declarationApril 27, 2021 - 10:43 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday, April 26 demanded that U.S. President Joe Biden reverse his recognition of the Armenian Genocide, the Voice of America reports. In his first comments since Biden's statement on Saturday, Erdogan said the U.S. leader “has made baseless, unjust and untrue remarks about the sad events that took place in our geography over a century ago.” Erdogan said he hoped Biden “will turn back from this wrong step as soon as possible.” The Turkish leader also advised Biden to “look in the mirror” at the slaughter of Native Americans by European settlers as the United States developed the western half of its territory in the 19th century. "While all these truths are out there, you cannot pin the genocide accusation on the Turkish people,” he said. Erdogan denounced Biden’s statement as “groundless” and harmful to bilateral ties. Erdogan said the move would hinder ties and said Turkey still sought to establish “good neighborly” ties with Armenia, Al Jazeera reports. “We believe that these comments were included in the declaration following pressure from radical Armenian groups and anti-Turkish circles. But this situation does not reduce the destructive impact of these comments.” Top stories Six total incidents have burned 19 old-growth trees.
