Russia sends border delimitation proposals to Armenia, Azerbaijan

PanARMENIAN.Net - Moscow has sent its proposals on the process of delimitation and demarcation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border to both Baku and Yerevan and expects a quick response, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, told a briefing on Thursday, September 16.

Zakharova said Russia is closely monitoring the situation on certain sections of the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, TASS reports.

"The development of the situation, including near the village of Vorotan, once again confirms the need for launching the process of delimitation and demarcation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border," the diplomat said.

"Russia's proposals have been submitted to both Baku and Yerevan, we expect a quick response to choose a further course [of action]."

Zakharova added that the Russian side will continue joint efforts with Azerbaijan and Armenia to unblock economic and transport communications in the region, as envisaged by trilateral statements signed by the leaders of the three countries in November 2020 and January 2021.

She noted that Moscow and Baku are "in contact" over the joint military exercises of Azerbaijan and Turkey in Nagorno-Karabakh. Zakharova said Baku has been made aware of Russia's position on the matter but failed to elaborate.

Azerbaijani forces violated Armenia’s border in several sections in the provinces of Syunik and Gegharkunik on May 12 and 13 and are still refusing to withdraw their troops from the area. Since then, almost a dozen Armenian servicemen have been killed in Azerbaijan’s shooting, a dozen others have been wounded, while six troops were captured on May 27, although four of them have already returned home.
