Armenia Foreign Minister says no word on "Zangezur corridor"October 5, 2021 - 11:08 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan on Monday, October 4 weighed in on the situation in the region, maintaining that there has never been an agreement over the so called "Zangezur corridor". The Azerbaijani side has on multiple occasions spoken about a so-called "corridor" through the southern Armenian province of Syunik that would connect Nakhijevan to the rest of Azerbaijan. The Armenian side, however, has repeatedly denied being involved in negotiations for the provision of a corridor to Azerbaijan, stressing that they have only agreed to unblock transport communications in the region. "Armenia has stated that it is open to dialogue on opening communications, while Azerbaijan is trying to misinterpret the so-called "Zangezur Corridor", about which there has been no word or agreement," Mirzoyan said in press statement along side his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian. "Both this and Azerbaijan's encroachments on the sovereign territory of Armenia endanger our efforts for the stability and security of the region. In this regard, we highly appreciate Iran's position on the territorial integrity of Armenia and the inviolability of its borders." Mirzoyan noted that the peace process under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship has in fact relaunched, evidenced by his meeting with Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov. "I would like to reaffirm Armenia's readiness to continue the full process of the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship, on the basis of well-known principles and elements," Mirzoyan added.
