Armenia, U.S. discuss OSCE role in Yerevan-Baku rapprochement

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and the U.S. co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group Andrew Schofer on Monday, April 18 exchanged views on launching the negotiations on a comprehensive peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

According to a press release from the Armenian Foreign Ministry, Mirzoyan emphasized the mediating role of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs in the process.

The implementation of the agreements on the establishment of the Commission on delimitation and border security was emphasized.

Mirzoyan then briefed Schofer on the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh. The sides discussed in detail the humanitarian issues resulting from the 44-day war, in particular the immediate release and repatriation of Armenian prisoners of war and other detainees, as well as the preservation of Armenian cultural and religious heritage in the territories fallen under the Azerbaijani control.

Days earlier, Mirzoyan met with France's co-chair, Brice Roquefeuil, and the role of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship in the process of the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within its mandate was emphasized.
