CSTO outlines proposals for de-escalating Armenia-Azerbaijan tensions

PanARMENIAN.Net - The CSTO mission has developed proposals for the de-escalation of tensions on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, the CSTO press service said Monday, September 19.

“Today, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia on the results of the work of the CSTO mission in Armenia,” the press service said.

“Colonel General Anatoly Sidorov, who heads the mission, informed the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia Suren Papikyan about the results of the analysis of the situation in certain areas on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, about the main conclusions and proposals for appropriate measures.

According to CSTO press service, the sides had a “frank, constructive exchange of views”, while the proposals are aimed at de-escalating the tension.

After Azerbaijan launched a large-scale attack on Armenia’s sovereign territory, the government of Armenia officially appealed to Russia, the United Nations Security Council and the Collective Security Treaty Organization. However, Sidorov said after the appeal was submitted that the CSTO won’t provide military assistance to Armenia "in the near future"
