Armenian, Azerbaijani officials meet in Washington

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Secretary of Armenia's Security Council Armen Grigoryan met with Azerbaijani presidential aide Hikmet Hajiyev in Washington on Tuesday, September 27.

National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan mediated the meeting at the White House, the press service of the Security Council in Yerevan said in a statement.

"The parties discussed the process of a long-term peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, as well as the need to establish peace in the region. Eliminating the consequences of recent aggression was stressed," the statement said.

The latest round of fighting between the two countries began in the wee hours of September 13, when the Azerbaijani military attacked Armenian posts and shelled Armenian settlements both on the border and deep behind the frontline. At least 207 people are dead or missing as a result, the Security Council of Armenia said on Monday.
