EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Toivo Klaar has said that the European Union has been completely transparent about its engagement in Armenia.

Klaar’s comments came after the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, weighed in on the mediation efforts of the EU in the settlement of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as the EU civil mission in Armenia. The diplomat said the EU's mediation in Armenian-Azerbaijani relations is “politicized and opportunistic” and described the results of the mission as “inconspicuous”.

“[The European Union] of has been and is completely transparent about its engagement for peace in the South Caucasus,” Klaar said on Twitter.

“And we will continue to work for the benefit of the nations and the people. [The mission] is an important element of this commitment.
