U.S. State Department urged to hold Baku accountable for Karabakh blockade

PanARMENIAN.Net - U.S. Rep. Anna G. Eshoo has urged the Department of State to use all the tools at their disposal to hold the Aliyev regime in Azerbaijan accountable for their acts of cruelty against the people of Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh).

“It’s appalling that Azerbaijan is escalating its seven-month blockade of the Lachin Corridor by prohibiting 400 tons of desperately needed food and medical supplies from entering Artsakh,” Eshoo said on Wednesday, August 2, referring to the humanitarian supplies sent by Armenia almost a week earlier.

“I strongly condemn Azerbaijan’s efforts to engineer a man-made humanitarian crisis in Artsakh, and I once again call on the State Departmeent to use all the tools at their disposal to hold the Aliyev regime accountable for their acts of cruelty.”

Since December 12, 2022, the sole road connecting Nagorno Karabakh to Armenia - the Lachin Corridor - has been blocked by Azerbaijan. Baku tightened the blockade on June 15, 2023, banning emergency relief supplies that were carried out by Russian peacekeepers and the International Committee of the Red Cross through the sole road connecting Karabakh to Armenia and the outside world. The move aggravated the shortages of food, medicine and other essential items experienced by the region’s population.
