Marutyan: no legal basis for AMD 50,000 fine on fare nonpayment![]() January 21, 2025 - 15:53 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Former Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan, who has called for a boycott of public transport fare increases starting February 1, stated that there is no legal provision for a 50,000-dram fine for not paying the increased fare. He added that he had asked legal experts to recheck, and they reaffirmed that no such provision exists. “Moreover, if anyone is fined 50,000 drams, we will cover all legal expenses and have it overturned,” Marutyan added. He emphasized that the initiative is based on legality, and participants can proceed without concern. Earlier, Marutyan urged everyone to boycott the fare hike starting February 1, pay 100 drams, and move on without arguing with the driver. The new public transport fare will take effect on February 1.
