Zakharova: Russia and Iran's positions on transport issues coincide

PanARMENIAN.Net - She noted that this is confirmed by the comprehensive strategic partnership agreement signed on January 17, 2025, in Moscow. Zakharova highlighted that the parties contribute to maintaining peace and security in neighboring regions, including the South Caucasus.

According to Zakharova, the only difference is Russia's participation in the trilateral working group with the deputy prime ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia, aimed at unblocking transport and economic links in the South Caucasus.

She recalled that within this group, significant work has been done to coordinate the legal foundations and technical parameters for restoring transport routes between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

"The basic principle of unblocking communications is the preservation of the sovereignty and jurisdiction of states over routes passing through their territory. This condition has been approved by both Baku and Yerevan. Unfortunately, the group's work has been frozen due to the position of the Armenian side," Zakharova stated.

She emphasized that Russia is ready to resume full cooperation.

Earlier, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk reported that no formal decision had been made to terminate the activities of the trilateral group established in January 2021. Contacts continue, but not in a trilateral format, rather between Mher Grigoryan and Shahin Mustafayev.
