Azerbaijani official demands Armenia Constitution amendment![]() February 25, 2025 - 12:01 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - On February 24, at the 56th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov objected Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan’s statements as “false”. Mirzoyan had condemned the trials of Armenian prisoners in Baku and raised concerns about their health conditions. Mammadov asserted that the post-conflict situation necessitates "bringing those responsible to justice" and that prosecuting suspects is "not only Baku’s right but also its obligation." He reiterated Azerbaijan’s stance that Armenia’s Constitution remains the main obstacle to a peace settlement, stressing that Yerevan must amend it to formally renounce territorial claims against Azerbaijan. "We expect Armenia to eliminate the key obstacle to normalization by legally renouncing territorial claims against Azerbaijan through constitutional amendments," Mammadov stated, as reported by APA. The Azerbaijani official also repeated accusations against Armenia, referencing the so-called "Western Azerbaijan" community’s demands, 4,000 missing persons, and landmines in Nagorno-Karabakh. During a meeting with ICRC President Mirjana Spoljaric Egger and in his speech at the UNHRC session, Mirzoyan called for the release of Armenian POWs and civilians held in Azerbaijan, condemning the ongoing "sham trials." He also expressed concern over their health and potential mistreatment. Earlier, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan claimed that former Nagorno-Karabakh military and political leaders imprisoned in Baku were being administered psychotropic substances, citing intelligence reports. He suggested this was part of an effort to provoke escalation. Baku denies the allegations. ![]() ![]() The foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Ararat Mirzoyan and Jeyhun Bayramov, have arrived in Washington.
