Lavrov starts Yerevan trip with memorial ceremony![]() May 21, 2025 - 12:53 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov began his official visit to Armenia by laying a wreath at the eternal flame in Yerevan’s Victory Park, at the Mother Armenia monument. The delegation paid tribute to the memory of those who died in the Great Patriotic War, according to Sputnik Armenia. Later today, Lavrov is set to meet with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Their private meeting will be followed by broader negotiations and a joint press conference. According to Russia’s Foreign Ministry, the discussions will build on high-level agreements reached on October 8, 2024, and Mirzoyan’s visit to Moscow on January 21. The ministers will review bilateral cooperation across various sectors, coordination within Eurasian integration frameworks, and positions in international organizations, particularly the United Nations. They will also exchange views on regional security issues, including developments in Armenian-Azerbaijani and Armenian-Turkish normalization efforts. Following the talks, the ministers are expected to sign the 2025–2026 consultation program between the two foreign ministries. During his stay, Lavrov will also speak at the Russian-Armenian University before faculty, students, and experts from Russian academic institutions. A meeting with members of the Russian community is planned at the Russian House in Yerevan. As per tradition, Lavrov is also expected to lay a wreath at the Armenian Genocide memorial. Lavrov arrived in Yerevan on May 20. His previous visit to Armenia took place in June 2022. Ahead of his arrival, several anti-Putin posters appeared in Yerevan near the Russian Embassy and the Kievyan Bridge. Activist Arman Babajanyan displayed a large banner reading “Putin is a murderer” on the road to the airport, later sharing the act on Facebook. Police removed the posters. ![]() ![]() As a result of floods in Armenia’s northern Lori and Tavush provinces, 17 bridges, including five large ones, have collapsed. David Vardanyan is the son of former Karabakh leader Ruben Vardanyan who who is currently imprisoned in Azerbaijan. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has met with Stephan Schütz, Executive Partner at Gerkan, Marg and Partners.
