U.S. embassy: birth tourism not allowed under visitor visa

PanARMENIAN.Net - The U.S. Embassy in Armenia has clarified that it is not permitted to travel to the United States on a B-1/B-2 tourist visa for the purpose of giving birth.

“You may not use a tourist visa to give birth in the United States in order to obtain U.S. citizenship for your child. A consular officer may deny a visa if they have reason to believe that your travel purpose is to give birth,” the statement reads.

The notice underscores that consular officials have discretion to reject visa applications if they suspect the applicant’s intent includes giving birth in the U.S.
