No Armenia-Azerbaijan talks planned at Moscow security forum

PanARMENIAN.Net - Deputy Secretary of Russia’s Security Council Aleksey Shevtsov confirmed there are no plans for separate talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan during the upcoming Moscow conference on security issues.

“There will be no official trilateral meetings in the Russia-Azerbaijan-Armenia format. The event's schedule is too packed to allow for such narrow-format negotiations,” Shevtsov told Interfax.ru.

He made the remarks in response to whether Armenian and Azerbaijani representatives could engage in separate discussions at the event.

Nonetheless, both delegations have been invited to participate in plenary sessions, thematic seminars, and a traditional working session for CIS countries, he added.

The Moscow Security Conference, chaired by Secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergey Shoigu, will be held from May 27 to 29 at the Russia national center. Over 125 delegations from more than 100 countries of the Global South and East, as well as the CIS, CSTO, EAEU, SCO, and 14 international organizations have confirmed their participation.

This high-level forum for officials dealing with security matters has been organized under the auspices of Russia’s Security Council since 2010.

On March 13, Armenia’s Foreign Ministry stated it had accepted Azerbaijan’s proposals regarding two previously unresolved articles of the peace treaty, declaring the agreement ready for signing. Armenia expressed readiness to begin consultations on the date and location, while Baku later introduced new preconditions and said it was too early to discuss timelines.
