First West Nile fever case confirmed in Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia’s National Center for Disease Control and Prevention has issued a warning about West Nile fever, a mosquito-borne viral disease, after confirming one laboratory-diagnosed case on June 3.

The disease is transmitted exclusively by mosquitoes and cannot spread from person to person. It typically follows a seasonal pattern, occurring between June and October.

Key symptoms include severe headache, dizziness, fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and skin rash.

Prevention tips:

• Use insect-repellent nets
• Apply repellents and use mosquito control devices
• Wear long-sleeved clothing when visiting wooded or wetland areas
• Regularly drain and clean water containers

While about 80% of those infected show no symptoms, around 18–19% experience moderate illness, and 1% may develop severe forms. Medical attention is advised if symptoms appear.
