Court lifts Serzh Sargsyan's travel ban, sets bail at $12,500

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Court has lifted the ban preventing the country’s third president, Serzh Sargsyan, from leaving the country, partially granting the motion filed by his attorneys Ruben Hakobyan and Amram Makinyan.

According to Sputnik Armenia, the court has replaced Sargsyan’s pretrial restriction with a bail set at AMD 5 million.

Judge Aram Grigoryan ruled that Sargsyan must pay the bail within three days to the Anti-Corruption Court.

Hakobyan argued that the initial restriction—imposed due to an alleged flight risk—was not properly substantiated by the investigating authority, Factor.am reports.

He added that regardless of the investigation stage, the case is now in court, and the conditions for enforcing pretrial restrictions no longer exist.

Serzh Sargsyan faces new charges in connection with the alienation of land on Isakov Avenue. The criminal case, overseen by the Investigative Committee, involves the 2005–2006 sale of 11 hectares of Ministry of Defense land—allegedly at prices significantly below market value and through direct sale—during Sargsyan's tenure as defense minister.
