Armenia extends operation of nuclear plant's 2nd unit

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Armenian government has approved an extension of the operational life of the second power unit of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (ANPP), to ensure the implementation of the program’s planned activities.

As part of the lifespan extension program, the ANPP underwent large-scale modernization and re-equipment works.

Earlier, it was announced that Rosatom Service, a subsidiary of Russia’s state atomic energy corporation Rosatom, supplied 1,500 tons of new equipment to the ANPP under the second phase of the modernization program, scheduled to continue until 2026.

The ANPP currently provides about one-third of Armenia’s electricity. Authorities also plan to build a new unit by 2036 to replace the existing ones.
