Kremlin calls Armenian unrest an internal affair

PanARMENIAN.Net - Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented on Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s claim of a foiled coup attempt, stating the situation is strictly Armenia’s internal affair. His remarks were published by RIA Novosti.

“This is undoubtedly an internal matter for Armenia. Of course, we are interested in ensuring that legality and calm are preserved in Armenia. And that Armenia remains a prosperous, stable country friendly toward Russia,” Peskov told reporters.

On the morning of June 25, law enforcement agencies launched searches at the residences of members of the “Sacred Struggle” movement. The Investigative Committee stated that the group’s leaders and members had planned terrorist actions and a seizure of power in Armenia.

On June 24, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan shared an article from civic.am titled “The opposition’s coup plan” on Facebook, adding: “This process will go down in history as the failed coup of traitors.”
