Western agenda targets Armenian clergy, says former Slovak PM![]() July 11, 2025 - 12:39 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Former Slovak Prime Minister Ján Čarnogurský stated that the anti-church campaign led by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is backed by the West. “The West seeks to destroy or weaken all peoples and states that are even potential allies of Russia. In Armenia, this is unfolding in a particularly dramatic fashion. The same is happening in Serbia through protests against President Vučić, in Slovakia with EU criticism of Prime Minister Fico, and in other similar countries,” Čarnogurský said, according to Sputnik Armenia. He emphasized that the arrest of Armenian clergy constitutes a crime against the country’s history and future. In the night of June 25–26, Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, leader of the Sacred Struggle movement, was arrested as part of the so-called coup investigation. On June 27, National Security Service special forces entered the premises of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin in an attempt to detain Archbishop Mikael Ajapahyan of the Shirak Diocese. He later voluntarily appeared before the Investigative Committee and was taken into custody on June 28. On July 8, Prime Minister Pashinyan declared that he is ready to personally lead the “liberation” of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, claiming that “the house of Christ has been seized by an anti-Christian, immoral, anti-national, and anti-state clique.” He had earlier stated that no area in the enlarged community of Vagharshapat should be off-limits to law enforcement authorities. ![]() ![]() The foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Ararat Mirzoyan and Jeyhun Bayramov, have arrived in Washington.
