19,246 displaced from Artsakh apply for RA citizenship

PanARMENIAN.Net - More than 12,500 individuals forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh have received Armenian citizenship, the Migration and Citizenship Service of Armenia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs reported, according to Sputnik Armenia.

“As of October 1, a total of 19,246 displaced persons from Nagorno-Karabakh applied for Armenian citizenship. Presidential decrees have so far granted citizenship to 12,564 of them,” the agency stated.

Additionally, 6,778 minors have received Armenian citizenship automatically, based on their parents being granted citizenship.

In total, nearly 20,000 individuals from Nagorno-Karabakh, including children, have become Armenian citizens.

Deputy Interior Minister Armen Ghazaryan previously noted during a September 5 parliamentary committee meeting that the citizenship process for displaced persons is being conducted under a simplified procedure. While standard naturalization typically takes at least 90 days, the process for Karabakh residents is being completed in under two months.

According to the Migration and Citizenship Service, 115,365 individuals were forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh after September 2023.
