As of April 1, a decision by the Armenian government has taken effect, altering the calculation of electric vehicle engine power, according to the Interior Ministry.

Under the new calculation method, property tax on electric vehicles is significantly reduced. If a vehicle already has an electronic passport, the data specified there will be used for tax calculation; otherwise, the new formula will apply.

For vehicles with up to 250 horsepower inclusive, the figure is divided by 1.5. For vehicles with 251 horsepower and above, the calculation is split into two parts: the first 250 horsepower is divided by 1.5, while the remaining portion is divided by 2.5. The results are then summed.

It was also noted that updates are underway on the website, and during April 1 all vehicles’ horsepower data will be reflected in users’ personal accounts on the platform.

The regulation is set to remain in force until December 31, 2028, after which its effectiveness will be assessed and a decision made on whether to maintain or revise the system.
