
The Collective Security Treaty Organization expects normalization between Armenia and Azerbaijan to lead to lasting peace in the South Caucasus.
Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov made the statement at a meeting of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly Council, according to Sputnik Armenia.
He noted that the organization continues to closely monitor the situation in the region.
“We are observing encouraging trends toward the signing of a comprehensive interstate peace agreement between the two countries. We expect that normalization of Azerbaijani-Armenian relations will become a reliable path to achieving sustainable peace and stability in the South Caucasus,” he said.
On August 8, 2015, a joint declaration was signed at the White House following a trilateral meeting between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov initialed an agreement on establishing peace and interstate relations between the two countries in the presence of their leaders and the U.S. president.
