Macron to visit Gyumri, attend concert

PanARMENIAN.Net - French President Emmanuel Macron will visit Gyumri on May 5 as part of a state visit and attend a large concert, according to a government draft decision.

The government plans to allocate about 393 million drams (more than $1 million) for organizing the concert, RFE/RL reports.

“A large concert is planned on May 5 at Vardanants Square in Gyumri, dedicated to the friendship between Armenia and France and the deepening of cultural cooperation. The concert program will feature Armenian and French-themed songs performed by renowned Armenian and French artists, accompanied by the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra,” the draft decision states.

Gyumri was chosen as the venue because, according to the government, there is strong interest and appreciation for the French language and culture in the city. This is linked to the support provided by the people and government of France during the reconstruction process following the 1988 earthquake.
