No detailed talks on Armenia at EAEU summit: Peskov

PanARMENIAN.Net - Russian President Vladimir Putin and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko briefly discussed Armenia during meetings held on the sidelines of the Eurasian Economic Union summit in Astana, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

“They spoke several times during the meetings yesterday. There was a brief exchange of views regarding Armenia, but there was no substantive discussion simply because there was not enough time,” Peskov told reporters, according to RIA Novosti.

He added that during the informal luncheon, participants had an opportunity to speak extensively together and engage in lengthy conversations.

During talks with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on April 1, Putin said that simultaneous membership in the European Union’s customs union and the Eurasian Economic Union was essentially impossible. On May 9, he proposed discussing Armenia’s plans related to the European Union at the next EAEU summit. Earlier, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov stated that the Armenian authorities were attempting to “sit on two chairs,” which, in his view, was harming the development of bilateral relations with Russia.
