Moscow raises concerns over Armenian produce control

PanARMENIAN.Net - Agricultural products exported from Armenia have recently failed to comply with Russian and Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) requirements, Russia’s Rosselkhoznadzor said.

The agency also suggested that Armenia’s Ministry of Economy may not be fully carrying out the responsibilities transferred to it following the dissolution of the Ministry of Agriculture, RBC reports.

“Considering that Russia is the main market for Armenian agricultural products, as well as the fact that products supplied from Armenia have recently failed to meet the phytosanitary requirements of both the EAEU and Russia, it can be assumed that Armenia’s Ministry of Economy is unable to fully exercise the powers assigned to it after the Ministry of Agriculture was abolished,” the agency said.

Armenia dissolved its Ministry of Agriculture in 2019, transferring responsibility for the sector to the Ministry of Economy.

Starting May 30, imports of certain fruits and vegetables from Armenia to Russia will be restricted. Earlier, restrictive measures were also imposed on Armenian flowers, Jermuk mineral water, as well as brandy and wine produced by three Armenian manufacturers.
