TURKMENBASHI STATED ASHGABAD'S READINESS TO PARTICIPATE IN IRAN-ARMENIA GAS PIPELINE CONSTRUCTION

PanARMENIAN.Net - President of Turkmenistan Saparmurat Niyazov has positively evaluated the possibility for the country to join the realization of the project of constructing Iran-Armenia gas pipeline. According to the information supplied by "Arminfo" agency, this was reported in the course of the meeting of the Turkmen leader with the special representative of Iran on affairs of defining the legal status of the Caspian Sea Mehdi Safari the other day. Within the context of Iranian-Turkmen cooperation in the sphere of energy the interlocutors discussed the opportunity of transporting Turkmen gas through Iran and Armenia. Let us note at present Turkmenistan supplies some 2 billion cubic meters of blue fuel to the northern regions of Iran. The volume is planned to increase in 2002 and a part of the gas to reach Armenia. The leadership of the Ministry of Energy of Iran stated earlier that construction of Iran-Armenia pipeline might already start in spring 2002.
