Israeli General Staff sets up panel of experts to investigate Mavi Marmara raid

PanARMENIAN.Net - IDF Chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi announced that he had appointed former head of the National Security Council Maj.-Gen. (res.) Giora Eiland to head a panel of experts set up to investigate the Mavi Marmara raid.

Eiland will collect testimonies from all of the IDF officers involved in the Marmara operation including Ashkenazi, head of the Navy Vice-Admiral Eli Marom and commanders of Shayetet, the Navy’s elite commando unit.

The panel will submit its findings to Ashkenazi by July 4. The lack of intelligence received by Shayetet commandos regarding the trained mercenaries waiting on-board for them will be of a key focus of the inquiry, The Jerusalem Post reported.
