PACE urges Baku to respect its obligations concerning Karabakh

PanARMENIAN.Net - Member of Heritage parliamentary group Zaruhi Postanjyan said that on October 6 the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) adopted a statement urging Azerbaijan to respects its obligations shouldered before the Council of Europe concerning the Karabakh conflict settlement.

Zaruhi Postanjyan told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter that around 30 parliamentarians signed the statement initiated by her.

The statement calls on Yerevan and Baku to resolve the Karabakh conflict only peacefully, excluding threat of use of force. “Despite its obligations, the Azerbaijani leadership continues pursuing a militaristic policy, making bellicose statements against Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh. Azerbaijan rejects recognition of the Karabakh people’s right to self-determination, refrains from negotiating with representatives of Karabakh, which is the basic side to the conflict, while all those people who visit Karabakh, including PACE members, are included on Azerbaijan’s blacklist,” reads the statement.

On October 5, the Azerbaijani delegation to the PACE disseminated a document on the Karabakh conflict, which was signed by 20 parliamentarians.
