Resolution on Karabakh waived from NATO PA agenda

PanARMENIAN.Net - Waiver of resolutions, which are submitted by Baku, from agenda of international organizations becomes a regular thing for Azerbaijan.

Member of the Armenian delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (PA), member of the RA NA Stepan Safaryan told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter that leader of the Azerbaijani delegation to the NATO PA Ziyafet Askerov sent a letter to the PA President and Chairman of the Committee for Political Affairs, asking to postpone discussion of the resolution on Karabakh conflict.

“The leader of the Azerbaijani delegation explained his request by the fact that parliamentary elections will be held in Azerbaijani soon, thus the discussion of such an important matter in the NATO PA is inappropriate,” Stepan Safaryan said, making a reference to a letter of NATO PA President John Tanner.

Safaryan noted that Armenian parliamentarians have numerously made offers on withdrawal of the resolution from the NATO PA agenda.

Specifically, Stepan Safaryn recalled the letter of RA NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan addressed to the NATO PA President, in which Abrahamyan urged the NATO PA President to refrain from discussing the Karabakh conflict, as the OSCE Minsk Group deals with its settlement.

“Similar behavior of the NATO PA leadership is unacceptable for us. It leaves unanswered the Armenian delegation’s offers and demands on unacceptability of the matter discussion, meeting the Azerbaijani delegation’s requests,” noted Safaryan.

According to Safaryan, the resolution will probably be discussed during the 2011 fall session of the NATO PA.
