Sumgait tragedy victims entitled to moral and material compensation, expert says

PanARMENIAN.Net - The witnesses and victims of Sumgait events are entitled to moral and material compensation, the project coordinator at the Institute of Civil Society and Regional Development stated.

As a political expert Shushan Khatlamajyan told a news conference in Yerevan, to receive the compensation these people need the assistance of the Armenian government.

“Although the Karabakh conflict pushed the Sumgait massacre to the background, it doesn’t mean the two issues are unrelated,” the expert noted. “The tragic events in Sumgait proved that there was no Soviet nation, and that any discontent can end in bloodshed,” she concluded.
