STATE PROSECUTOR DEMANDS 15 YEARS OF IMPRISONMENT FOR NKR EX DEFENSE MINISTER SAMVEL BABAYAN

PanARMENIAN.Net - 31.01.2001, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. On January 31 Prosecutor Vahram Avagyan continued the speech for the prosecution at the trial of the case of the terrorist act against NKR President, the correspondent of Mediamax reports from Stepanakert.

With the consideration of the fact that the crime was committed under martial law conditions, the State prosecutor thought it expedient to pass the following sentences for the accused:

Ex Defense Minister of NKR Samvel Babayan, accused of organizing the terrorist act and weapon theft - 15 years of imprisonment in colony under strict regime, 5 years of which are to be spent in prison, with confiscation of private property.

Sasun Aghajanian and Levon Mirzoyan, accused of being indirect executors of the terrorist act - also 15 years of imprisonment in colony under strict regime, 5 years of which are to be spent in prison, with confiscation of private property.

Eric Faramazian, who participated in the preparation and commitment of the crime - 14 years in colony under strict regime, 5 years of which are to be spent in prison, with confiscation of private property.

David Gulian, who helped the terrorists to leave the place of crime - 10 years of imprisonment in colony under strict regime.

For the rest of the accused conditional sentences are passed, with changing the preventive punishment and liberating them from under the custody after the verdict comes into effect.

Vahram Avagian also thought it expedient to deprive all the accused of their state awards and military ranks.

The court announced break in the court session until February 13 to give the lawyers and the victims time to prepare the speech. --0--
