On-line media sources increase in Armenia, however they lack content and professionalism

PanARMENIAN.Net - The number of Armenian News Agencies has increased for several years, according to IT expert Karen Vrtanesyan.

“Growth of news agencies is conditioned by Internet expansion, relatively speedy and available connection, social networks growth. Lack of press in social networks brings to outage of attendance,” Vrtanesyan told a press conference during which, alongside with Director of Hareyan Publishing (U.S.) News agency Armen Areyan, they disclosed the shortcoming in the Armenian news field and experience of innovative foreign media.

The IT expert thinks that Armenia’s main task is the issue of education.

“We sense serious shortage of professionalism, many graduates cannot express their ideas; we need specialists, writing both in Armenian and foreign languages. It is obvious that mass medias increased on the Internet, however, on attentive study of the content, serious mistakes are revealed: grammatical, professional, and analytical. When I need a good journalist I cannot find one in Armenia,” said Areyan adding that he wills Armenian media could further on compete with NewYork Times or Financial Times in professionalism.

Karen Vrtanesyan and Armen Areyan offered solutions to this problem.

Areyan considers that, first and foremost, it is necessary to locate news sites in search systems like Google News, Bing or Yandex and to write news which would immediately find their place on the Google News main page.

“This variant will lead to multiple attendances and good profits. Another solution is Live Blogging (direct transmission), which is also a method of attracting attendances. And, certainly, mass media engagement in social networks is important. Our press must take profitability seriously and not remain dependent on donors,” Areyan said. He thinks important mass media to create their own software for smart phones, since today many draw information from phones.

According to Vrtanesyan, today blogs attract more readers than on-line media sources on the Armenian Internet.
