Armenian-American defense consultations over in Washington

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian-American defense consultations under chairmanship of Armenia’s Deputy Minister of Defense David Tonoyan, Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs Alexander Vershbowand, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Russia/Ukraine/Eurasia Celeste Wallander has been over in Washington.

Armenian delegation headed by Armenia’s Deputy Defense Minister was in Washington from July 18-21 to participate in consultations within the framework of which issues of bilateral military cooperation, programs of joints maneuvers, military education, military medicine staff management issues, professional re-training of sergeants and junior officers were discussed during the consultations.

Consultants also discussed issues of mutual interests and outlined new spheres of cooperation.

In the course of the visit, Deputy Defense Minister, Armenian Ambassador to U.S. Tatul Markaryan and military attache, Colonel Mesrop Nazaryan met with U.S. Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Michèle Flournoy and discussed issues of bilateral military cooperation and regional security.

Tonoyan also met with newly-appointed U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs Eric Rubin, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Bureau of Political-Military Affairs Kurt Amend as well as with Director of Conventional Arms Threat Reduction in the Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation Ann Ganzer to discuss issues relating to military production export.
