Sargsyan can follow Saakashvili's suit with snap election - politician

PanARMENIAN.Net - New Times party leader believes Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan could follow the suit of his Georgian counterpart Mikheil Saakashvili, who used pre-term election to validate his second accession to presidency.

As Aram Karapetyan told a news conference in Yerevan, recent shifts in presidential staff seem quite logical if preparation to snap election is considered. “If President Sargsyan is getting ready for extraordinary election, his steps to form headquarters are understandable,” the politician said.

At the same time, Karapetyan expressed doubt over the success of the plan. “The fulfilment will be quite hard, considering differences between situations in Armenia and Georgia, which had almost no opposition forces at the time,” he observed.

The politician was sceptical that Sargsyan's victory will lead to changes in Armenia, which is in serious need of political, economic and social reforms.
